An interesting week. Oh, who am I kidding. It is, unfortunately a typical one for this year. Well, maybe a little more down than is “typical”, but the essential story is holding. The Market did not have a good week, with the NASDAQ Composite losing 5.6%. The Biotech composite indices were within about half a percent of that.
Looking at the individual stocks, there have been a few bright spots. Something happened after the market closed on Monday, that resulted in increased activity for CRDF, and a weekly gain of 51%. But just what that something is is not apparent in a simple search of Yahoo or the web generally. STTK was in the top five for two weeks running, again with no obvious recent news to hang this performance on. In terms of the losers, there seems to be a bit more sense. Big looser RIGL (down 60% for the week) had suffered a major failure in a Stage III clinical trial; while GNCA continues its doom spiral to eventual delisting.
The contest portfolios general performance continues to parallel the S&P Biotech Index. For our top 10 portfolios, only one managed to be in the black for the seek. The persistent large gap between the returns of the #1 and #2 spots continues. ROCKY9 returned to the top 10 after a week’s absence, and this is KMASTRA’s first appearance, so Congratulations.
