Yes. Fertility is below replacement, in many parts of the world. No one really knows the reasons - and they may differ in different countries. Spengler mentions that in Iran, the decisive factor is… simple literacy among women. Illiterate country girls keep having some 8 babies, often more - just as they always have. The moment they learn how to read - their fertility drops to 1.6 or so, typical for Western Europe. And - it’s not related to their educational level, just simple literacy.

(I remember wondering if that isn’t the reason why the Taliban fought so hard against girls going to school).

Orthodox Jews have famously large families. Secular Jews are way below replacement.

Spengler offered some speculations - that, possibly, the fertility levels among religious people may be generally higher because faith makes people more optimistic and less self centered.

Putin tried to get people to have more kids by appealing to their patriotism. The needs of the tribe. With some success, I hear.

I think, having been brought up in a nuclear family may be important. A person grows up with some images of how life should be. Destruction of the nuclear family may be causing damage, in this respect.

Imo, the extremely low fertility rates among the South Koreans may be related to them being rich - and simply having too much fun

Sorry for the rant. Got carried away a bit.
