SPY weekly closes chart since 2007 vs. three selected moving averages -

stockcharts.com

* price first eventually bounces back above the 89-week EMA during bull market phases,
while SPY remains below all three moving averages during bear market phases

* in addition, bear market phases are characterized by weekly closes remaining below
a declining 21-week SMA

Note - stockcharts.com downward adjusts the SPY price history by the amount of each quarterly
dividend ... another dividend is paid on the 3rd Friday in June 2022
