I do think their report today will probably be negative in some respects, and can realistically imagine it will be quite bad, so I'm staying away except for a small short position. But it could be okay. I just see a realistic possibility of a debacle and don't want to get caught. There is some difference from NVLS, in that AMAT has had time to absorb some earnings impact from lost sales. But more important than the numbers, or their subjective opinion of the future (both of which are important, don't get me wrong), is their backlog or btb figures, which predict the future and aren't subject to as much spin control as subjective predictions in the CC.
