About 75 patients on PIs, more than 50% for more than 1 year. Less than 10% on Cryx. One patient developed acute onset of Diabetes, and pancreatitis, he was on Norvir, Invirase and Videx (had failed everything else). The only problem I have found with Invirase and Viracept has been tolerable diarrhea. Patients have had lipid problems since before the PIs. Check the package inserts and you will see all the side effects with NNRTIS,and NRTIS. I would like to know how the investigators can say that this "Cryx Belly" is a problem with the Pis, since no patient is only on a single PI. Maybe it has to do with the combination of multiple drugs. Remember that Epivir can cause acute hepatitis. And, like I have said before, what is happening with the inhibition of the P450 Cytochrome System. Point, it is to early to blame the PIs for this finding, maybe it has to do with the combinations, or other drugs used concominantly. Bactrim causes cholangitis, etc, etc.
You may not be knocking the drugs, but it certainly sounds like it. |
