You can't hide.

The whole question reminds me of Cormac McCarthy's The Road. In that story, the wife knows right away that she can't or won't live in the new reality. The man, for the sake of the boy, presses on -- not just out of love or responsibility, but also because he has faith in the boy's goodness.

People of faith are in for a test. I'm not particularly one of them, but my wife is (so far), so I've got to stick around.
