Computer Associates And Information Analysis Announce The Commercial Availability Of UNICAST/2000 For CA-ADS Customers

ISLANDIA, N.Y. & FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1998--

Gulfstream Aerospace Completes Successful Beta Testing In Information Analysis Inc. Solution Factory; UNICAST/2000 For CA-ADS Sets New Year 2000

Conversion Standard For Accuracy And Minimizes Manual Intervention

Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA) and Information Analysis Inc. (NASDAQ: IAIC) today announced the commercial availability of UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS, a powerful analysis and remediation tool that greatly reduces the manual effort required to achieve Y2K compliance for CA-ADS applications accessing CA-IDMS.

UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS is a key component of CA Discovery 2000, an integrated solution to address the Year 2000 challenge and effectively transition legacy applications into the 21st century. It finds and corrects data elements in CA-ADS applications and makes these applications Year 2000 compliant.

Previously, UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS was available exclusively through Year 2000 conversion factories. General availability of UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS expands the market for the product to those organizations undertaking Year 2000 conversion in-house.

Gulfstream Aerospace, a leading designer, developer, manufacturer and marketer of the world's most technologically advanced intercontinental business jet aircraft, implemented UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS as part of its Year 2000 compliancy initiative. This effort involved the automated remediation of selected CA-ADS programs operating within Gulfstream's current production manufacturing applications. Gulfstream selected these business critical processes, which had related Year 2000 functionality problems, as specific candidates for UNICAST/2000 remediation. Gulfstream's primary manufacturing facility, located in Savannah, Ga., has produced more than 1,000 aircraft for customers around the world. The test took place in IAI's Solution Factory in Fairfax, Virginia.

"UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS has successfully demonstrated for Gulfstream the level of accuracy required to insure our confidence in being able to address Y2K functionality issues in existing, non-compliant CA-ADS applications," said John Williby, project representative for Gulfstream's Year 2000 project. "In our case, the automated integration of date windowing logic into identified problem source code is critical to our aircraft manufacturing process."

"Our alliance with CA and IAI's solution factory provides an automated code conversion process with predictable, proven results. This allows Gulfstream resources to concentrate on evaluation, testing and verification rather than code change. Therefore, we can have a higher level of confidence that the systems supporting critical business processes will operate dependably," said Cheri Roach, Gulfstream vice president of IT.

Thousands of organizations worldwide use CA-ADS for mission-critical online mainframe applications. Fully integrated with CA-IDMS and the CA-IDMS dictionary, CA-ADS provides a powerful, fourth-generation application development environment that aids developers in prototyping, designing, building and maintaining online applications using SQL or navigational access to CA-IDMS databases.

"CA-ADS clients are used to an extremely productive environment for application development and UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS extends this high standard to Y2000," said Mark Stabler, CA vice president and Year 2000 business unit executive. "Clients can quickly remediate the CA-ADS applications that drive their businesses. We're pleased to offer clients such as Gulfstream the flexibility to achieve Year 2000 compliance in-house or off-site."

"This commercial release of UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS sets a new standard in automated software remediation," said IAI president Brendan Dawson. "This product provides CA's clients, either directly or through Year 2000 solution factories, the ability to remediate over 95 percent of their CA-ADS code automatically. UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS gives these companies the ability to convert code more quickly and accurately than previously possible and opens a market to IAI that consists of billions of lines of code worldwide."

UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS is the first of several CA and IAI partnership offerings to be developed for CA language environments. The CA Discovery 2000 solution provides a complete suite of software and services that help reduce the cost and ensure the success of Year 2000 initiatives. Included are tools to help estimate and plan the Year 2000 initiative, and services including portfolio inventory, impact assessment, project planning, education and conversion techniques.

The Universal Computer Aided Software Translator (UNICAST) is an integrated, mature set of advanced conversion tools, developed over a 17 year span, which has been enhanced to automate Year 2000 date conversion in a wide array of operating environments. UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS is the first in a series of commercially available solutions to automate Year 2000 date remediation in software licensed by CA. The next scheduled products are UNICAST/2000 for CA- Easytrieve, COBOL-IDMS and CA-Ideal.
