Hey, careful with the we.
Why are we so stupid as a species?

Perhaps we don’t deserve to survive.

I'm a different species, albeit closely related. Evolutionary speed is fast, contrary to popular ideology and ignorance. Fast = standard deviation changes in a single century. Now with 7 billion in the reassortment, selection, filtering and disposal high speed process.

The species is so stupid because humans are closely related to chimps, who have IQ in the low double digits. There's a distribution curve with half of humans being below 100 IQ. That reduces the average dramatically.

Because, as shown by the Flynn Effect, more intelligent people are rapidly selected for, the bottom 10% or so are eliminated each generation and there's rapid upward pressure on intelligence. And there are personality selection processes too such as blessed are the meek, cooperative and VVV as they shall inherit the Earth. The old way of being a violent brute, mass murdering to become boss of the tribe and claim mating rights has pretty much gone.

You are right that as a species, there's lots of room for improvement. That process is underway, fast. Those who deserve to survive do. Those who have bad luck or don't deserve to survive, don't.
