The harder the drums are drummed, the more urgent the use of the deployed troops, because i suspect as far as Russia is (now or always) concerned there must not remain a viable Ukraine rump-state, to simplify Russia’s future defense imperatives.

Russia already indicated ready to all-in to the nuclear level.

Should the deployed US troops simply standby and watch as Ukraine gets reduced, makes the US / troops look impotent once Russia turns attention to Lithuania, that minor state which seems to have volunteered to be next in line for ‘de-Nazification’.

Ukraine pivotal, I reckon. Might be the case that proto-WWIII either stops within Ukraine or expands.

At this stage I no longer care to debate the right / wrong / whereof of the issues, as whatever is happening has taken on life of own. More people shall get hurt before ‘it’ is all over by whatever path.
