What Ukraine spent after the invasion has no bearing on the belief they were attacked because of Russia’s fear of Ukraine joining NATO.
As we can now see, Russia accepts two additional countries with greater military capability-sophisticated weapons and far greater military spending. There is no comparison, therefore, the entire “we attacked because of Ukraine joining NATO”, connected with the belief that it’s the fault of America is nothing but a red-herring.
Now Russia claims they don’t want their feelings hurt by being insulted, demeaned or some other ego based nonsense to justify the invasion. Eventually, the apologist minded supporters of Russia will come to realize it was all about land and resources - just as most wars throughout history.
Ritter who has been wrong on virtually every prediction of this war from day one, now thinks the “west” is on the verge of economic ruin unless they stop supporting Ukraine. Further claiming the west needs to stop shipping weapons systems immediately to prevent economic calamity. Meanwhile, Russia is “benefitting” from the war. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Russia’s economic contraction is likely to be 15 or more percent since the start of the war. Their dependence on key items such as microprocessors guarantees their continued struggle to keep pace with the west. Sure, the Kleptocratic leaders will continue to live like Kings, but the average Russian will suffer some, then more and more. The freedoms they enjoyed have already been severely curtailed, critics are routinely tossed in jail and any dissent is viewed as a traitorous act.
No wonder so many areas formerly controlled by the chanting USSR brainwashed folks want nothing to do with their vision of the future. If they didn’t point a gun at so many towns, millions more would join Georgia and the other breakaway Republics. It must be gut wrenching to look in the mirror everyday and know so many millions want nothing to do with your vision of the future and would rather die, then live in tyranny. |
