I have heard that all my life. The society should provide free education to the people because research shows it gets its money back many fold in increased production and decreased crime.

And I would a much healthier society and democracy.

That is, it is in societies best interest to provide free public education.

We know it is important for K though 12, what is the logic in stopping there!!??

Also, I don't think anything is free or should be. There needs to be a price, everyone receiving a free education must give something back later; some sort of service (not necessarily military.)
