Simply stated, an adapter card plugs into a PC to provide a physical and software interface to the network...Intel and 3Com have sold these for quite some time. These cards are made all over the world, and carry relatively low margins. Intel probably gets the Ethernet cards from the far east.

Ethernet switches, on the other hand, are stand-alone boxes that carry higher margins. They implement the network protocol, and moderate stations on the network.

MRVC/Nbase sells advanced Ethernet switches. As far as I know, MRVC has never sold Ethernet cards.
