>>Secularism is tolerant of multiple choices.

I participated in debates between a personal philosophy and a group philosophy for thousands of posts 20 years ago and was surprised how angry I could make people - not attacking their personal beliefs but only the problems created when these unprovable beliefs were extended to public policy, or judgment upon others. It is surprising how little the arguments have changed.

As a SecHum I presume you are tolerant of group religions only to the extent that they don't want to export religious-based moral frameworks as a set of public laws, secular education, etc. especially when they reach a critical mass or God-forbid (lol) a majority. It is evident that this transformation from less empowered to more empowered makes many ignore others' personal philosophies (which may or may not part of a recognized group). A good policy metric IMO is maximizing "agency" while minimizing "provable harm" - not a low bar. This is key to abortion, school prayer, and other divisive debates - people tend to side with whatever validates their group belief. Many take a absolute position based on "souls" and the equivalence of all souls in the eyes of God. Sinners have lower value than innocents. My camp take the sanctity of personal attitudes and the implied and explicit rights of being secure in one's person (4th Amendment, including their beliefs) as preeminent.

It hasn't gelled yet. Reversal of Roe.v.Wade and Cruz' hubris opining the "wrong decision" on same-sex marriage, or broad permissive attitudes on gun ownership, are but the latest examples of this boundary issue between group beliefs and personal philosophies.
