Yorkton Securities - Diamonds in Alberta
by: Art D. Ettlinger and Douglas A. Leishman, Mining Analysts, Yorkton Securities Vancouver, B.C., February 6, 1998
--------------------------------------------------------------------- Mount Hope Resources Corp. (MH-ASE) YH $1.70 YL $0.38 Curr $0.75 9.3 million shares o/s Treasury $0.50 M 3.2 million acres --------------------------------------------------------------------- Mount Hope has 100% interest in 3.2 million acres of land in northern Alberta. Based on current understanding, their most prospective property lies immediately outside of the northwest margin of the Buffalo Head Terrane. A 1997 high resolution airborne magnetic survey covering 500,000 acres in this area has identified over 20 magnetic anomalies potentially related to kimberlites. Many of these anomalies are closely grouped in a cluster, which is a common characteristic of kimberlite intrusions. The company has more recently completed a more detailed, 100m line- spacing, magnetic survey over the 12 square km anomalous region and plans to initiate ground surveys over the most prospective anomalies early this year. Unlike some of the other landholdings in this region, till thickness underlying much of this block appears to be light, which will greatly assist their exploration program.
Elsewhere in Alberta, the company has two property blocks along the north and south shores of Lake Athabasca in the far northeastern part of the province. This area is not known to be highly prospective for diamonds, however if the work by Lytton and Birch Mountain on their Athabasca permit is successful, then an increase in diamond exploration activity can be expected in this area.
Mount Hope has acquired the services of George Read to guide their exploration. Mr. Read has over thirteen years of diamond exploration experience and has worked for DeBeers, Anglo American Corp. And Monopros. To assist in the interpretation of geophysical data, the company has retained Bruce Counts, a consulting geophysicist with 5 years of diamond exploration experience in the Northwest Territories while working for BHP Diamonds Inc. The combined diamond exploration experience of these two individuals will prove invaluable in the interpretation of potential kimberlite anomalies and when designing and exploration program to test these anomalies.
We are recommending Mount Hope for purchase by the speculator as an opportunity to gain exposure to prospective lands outside of the BHT. The exploration experience of George Read and Bruce Counts, and the company's relationship to the successful management team of Nevsun Resources will give this junior company a better than average chance for success in Alberta.
