I found it on some click-bait site on my news feed and it fit the narrative. I realized today - my training has made me "teleological" - meaning always seeking the purpose of, or use for, something. Computers were described as "teleological machines" - because by design they only are "used for something". Why have a computer if you can't use it? It is just the way my brain works...

The numbers of people on the planet press the limits of what I can visualize and if there are "one in a million" stories - there will be 8,000 of these today and every day. 2,000 of THOSE will be from India or China alone.

Mind-numbing as it is - there are quantities in physics and chemistry that when laid out factually put my brain into overload. I have to hit the reset button and re-scale the problem to imaginable terms.

Here's one:
How many liters do all those eight BILLION people drink a day?
One to two dozen-Olympic sized swimming pools per minute of fresh, potable water is close to volume one would we need in order to visualize it. That is just what they drink. Add bathing, cleaning, agriculture and industrial - it could be easily 100 times that.

Welcome to the world of a math geek. Don't get me started ... I can't stop.
