Most companies involved in Alzheimers research have focussed on Amyloid beta plaques. One exception, notably, is Ionis Pharmaceuticals, which has ongoing clinical trials of a drug to treat tau tangles, a factor that may be closer to a direct cause of Alzheimers.

Ionis bases all its research on some 40 drugs on antisense technology. I have owned IONS shares since 2004.
