In the chimpoid good old days, the motivations were easy and clear = alpha male genocidal territorial Malthusian conflict for girls, resources and mating rights. Everywhere had the same problem = they had to breed fast to get numbers to defeat the same process over the border, but in doing so they forced themselves into that situation. Sometimes the spares were used as slaves or near-enough to build the Great Wall of China, the pyramids, the moais of Easter Island, but genocide with competing neighbours was the main process.
With populations falling there's minimal Malthusian surplus people, particularly men, to be disposed of, depending on the country and the current economic situation therein. In Africa, populations are soaring to Malthusian calamity. In Japan, they are fizzling out so there are no spare men to go rampaging around the world. India has a big surplus of people but Hindu/Buddhist ideology limits their Malthusian murdering. China has a lot of people but not swarming hordes of youngsters to get rid of. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the Earth. That does look to be the case now that contraception has given choice.
China and Taiwan don't have the spare people problem and there seems to me to be no reason for them to fight each other, except that China is war-mongering, threatening.
I agree that having "We shall conquer you" in the constitution is not just poor form but an actual threat. If people threaten, they should not complain when the people/person being threatened takes them at their word and pre-emptively destroys the threat. That's why Islamic Jihad and their Koran deserve to be obliterated = they not just threaten theoretically but carry out murderous attacks around the world. Islam and Taiwan should purify their constituions by eliminating conquering threats. China should also eliminate their conquering threat, otherwise, they deserve to be given 1000 gigatons of persuasion to remove the threat.
There is some argument that by leaving Taiwan as independent, it means USA might use Taiwan as a forward base for attacks on China, but Taiwanese are not interested in becoming serfs to USA, I guess. But with China's threats, of course they seek Made in USA military might and backing, along with Eurostan and anyone else they can get support from.
As shown in Ukraine, the USA is very keen to use other people as forward bases from which to conduct attacks.
One of the remaining reasons for conflict is to find out which systems are more successful for people. Kim the Fatter's totalitarian obedience [laughable obedience], Switzerland's civilized democracy with free enterprise and VVV, USA's muddled mayhem powered by Ashkenazi creative intelligence and brute force and numbers, Eurostan's commie collectivist Euroserfs, Russia's hard-nosed old school style, Aotearoa-Zimbabwe's welfare horrors and collapse slowed by imported cashed up foreigners who do some work. Voting with feet is a good measure of success - not many are breaking into Zimbabwe, Hong Kong has lost its magic, Free Stuff in UK remains attractive.
War over Taiwan seems especially absurd. But China is big and brutal enough that allowing Genghis style conquest is a bad idea. First thing to do is for Taiwan to delete that part of their constitution if it is not just an internet rumour started by Made in China propagandists.
China should delete their constitutional conquest clauses too.
They could each wave their new constitutions for the cameras and say "Peace in our time". China would also have to not WANT to attack. The USA doesn't have in their constitution "We Shall Attack Anyone We Feel Like, Anywhere", but that's what they do, so the paper is less important than good intentions.
But deleting conquering constitutional content is a good start.
China is criticized for suppressing Islamic jihad, but I'm with China on that = Moslems should not be thinking their constitution includes jihad aka World Conquest, murdering and mayhem. When their founder set that constitutional idea, that was how the world worked - winner takes all the girls and everything else. Genghis Khan did a very good job of returning the favour, all the way to Europe and down into the Islamic realm.
Nobody thinks Taiwan is going to invade China. Everybody knows China intends to conquer Taiwan and threatens to do so constantly. The respective pieces of paper are a fig-leaf for China covering their brutal, atavistic, ugly, murderous genitals - the big surplus of males in China is perhaps part of the problem [spare young incel males are always a problem].
