Kodak has the last laugh. Remember Kodak? The laughing stock / byword for industry disruption and failure to recognize how technological trends would upend the business.

"Engineers at Kodak have discovered that the “supercell” batteries Wildcat manufactures, require a similar coating and engineering services, like their 35mm film. So, with minimal retooling, these $70 million machines have a new life, producing materials needed to create batteries."

“[These machines are] probably a $70 million or $80 million machines, and we were selling them extremely cheap, [for less than] $2 million,” Jim Continenza, CEO of Kodak, tells the Rome Sentinel. “And it’s like, ‘No, we’ve got to put this back to work. This is an incredible piece of equipment

Well, it seems like Eastman Kodak Company has had the laugh. While more than a decade too late to prevent bankruptcy, the opportunity to use expensive, narrow focus machines in battery #production must be music to their ears.

There's a little bit more irony to this story. As Kodak's fortunes look up again, the #digital camera companies like Canon Digital Imaging Solutions Partners, Nikon, Sony Electronics | Healthcare Solutions (US & Canada), Olympus Corporation, etc. are suffering volume drops of more than 90% over the last decade as cell phone cameras almost completely take over the consumer market.
