Your are a disgrace, Sir Joseph! John Galt has a special cave just for you. How dare you argue the holy position of the esteemed Galt with distortion and treachery.
>>as i said, events appear random to observers who either (i) ask "wrong" questions in quantum mech, or (ii) do not have sufficient knowledge in classical phenomena. e.g., with radioactive decay, >> in the decay or half life of the radioactive element and in quantum mechanical states>> "wrong" questions are, e.g., when (at what moment of time) a given nucleus decays? or, how many nuclei decay in so much time? correct questions may be: what is half-life of a nucleus? or, what is the probability distibution for the decay? if you ask a "wrong" question, you can't get a meaningfull answer, then you say "things happen at random".<<
John Galt did not ask improper questions but merely pointed to the phenomena as 'evidence' for 'random events'. A question is not wrong if it cannot be answered given 1) the phenonema is real and 2) the question is logical. The evidence shows quantifiably and conclusively that the phenomena is 'measurably immeasurable'.
>>don't confuse randomness of convenience in "complex systems" with (nonexistent) fundamental randomness. laws of nature are not random, but definitive and deterministic.<<
Mutations as naturally occurring phenomena must be 'random', for EVEN NATURE DOES NOT KNOW WHICH MUTATIONS WILL SUCCEED. How dare you assault the mighty Galt and accuse his mind of seeking convenience. The evidence is clear. If you where asked the relevant and logical question 'What events through all time lead to Joseph G?' You should immediately 'see' that the answer is not quatifiable and to admit that the answer is MEASURABLY IMMEASURABLE! On the other hand, if you seek an alternative answer, you are no different than the cavedwellers who insist on counting to infinity.
It is you, sir, who is seeking conveniece. That all things are deterministic makes it convenient for your idealization of god.
