Here's a picture of a Nodwell [Nodwell is a brand name] for sale;

onlink.net - not the best picture of the tracks, which are a tank type [as opposed to cat (dozer) type]. That Nodwell is for sale;
onlink.net - screamin' Jimmy power, wear ear muffs. Just put "nodwell" into Altavista and you come up with 266 links; altavista.digital.com

Bombardier is another brand name for similar machines, though Nodwell makes them heavier and more industrial, as does Foremost. This type of machine is often seen on ski hills, where they call them "snowcats". As with all tracked vehicles, track cost per hour or per mile is significant, the tracks wear out far faster than tires. On the other hand, you never get flat tires. Re-connecting a broken track or putting back on a track that has left the idler, now there's a challenge, especially when you do it in four feet of mud. At fourty below - I can't imagine it. Those guys on the ground up there certainly have my respect.

PS - Walt, you should invite Ghunk from the PFG thread over to your "Bet your Assay" thread - he's a driller and I'd like to hear whatever he could contribute. 207.183.153.73 Bet your Assay
