I spent part of the night watching that 1930 John Wayne movie "The Long Trail" it was so good.

That was the first big screen talky and those people didn't have to make up those props or hire actors that could ride a horse, everyone could ride a horse and those people were living that life.

All those wagons and animals and other things was amazing and never could be duplicated today.

My grandfather rode a horse from San Louis Obispo to Bakersfield. Watching a good movie from 1930 gives one a very unique experience like if we could actually see a real life movie of how people were, and lived, in Rome or Greece 2,000 years ago.

No book in the world can explain what one can see in that movie. And it shows so clearly how far we have come as a society with our suburbs, indoor plumbing and all the fancy stuff we have, medical care, schools, and a sophisticated rule of law.

Today we take all this for granted, especially our democracy and rule of law. As Washington said:" you have a democracy if you can keep it.:

Well, the Republicans have sure put that in doubt!

And things like their sense of humor of the times and other behavior seems quaint and simplistic today. It is amazing we got as far as we did looking at that movie.
