Wharfie, in other words, the definition of a recession is "whatever the bureaucrats at the NBER think it should be."

They even stated flat out that a recession could be as short as two months, as was the case back in 2020, because of how severe the brief downturn was.

In any case, it's going to be hard to claim that we never entered a recessionary period within the last six months when the overall GDP contracted during that time period. Just because the most recent job numbers are strong doesn't mean we never were in a recession.

Now I'll wait while you dance around and claim that whether we were in a recession or not doesn't matter as long as we aren't in one right now. Because even in the classic definition, you won't know until six months after the recession started.
