Sorry TJ but you responded with a complete different subject to a quite clear IMHO question which is disappointing

As to "Asimov Foundation" you mention we as we can define us as humanity are on the cusp of self-destruction and signs are everywhere.

At this point in time, there is still an "out" available but the events around the world even without robots point in a different direction.

The man made ecological disasters are getting severer every year and no serious action is being taken to avoid the destructive instability in the various seasons around the world.

Further not only on this tread but in general little attention is given to the movements of the tectonic plates and the geopolitical consequences.

The danger looms under each big continent and even if the movements are in mm/year the underlying stress to a breakup is huge.

little attention is given to the "Mariana Trench" the "Philippines Plate" and the disintegration of the mainland "China plate" or the "North American plate" divide

each can snap in our lifetime or further in the future as there are many academic geological papers on the subject with the inclusive warnings.

As not being knowledgably in this field I cannot form an opinion but the extreme stress humanity exercises on the earth surface a "snap" could happen and the 3 Gorge dam is a well known example that influenced the earths rotational speed around its axis and the amplitude of its wobbling.

It may be minimal but facts are that the magnetic earth field is generating anomality's and the magnetic north pole is moving by km/year all available on various scientific websites.

Consequences can be dare and the unprovoked war against Ukraine is a proof of the immature state of humanity civilization as is the recent senseless brouhaha around Taiwan.

The stability of the earth tectonic plates not to mention an outside impact is giving a false sense of geological stability.

IMHO an nuclear accident or purposely inflicted nuclear explosion could be the trigger to release the stresses within the "hot" points between the tectonic plates with unexpected results.
