Research shows that there is a greater personality variations amongst dogs than people, even when you limit it to the same breed. Anecdotally I can attest to this. Someone in our neighbourhood has a Portuguese Water Dog that doesn't like water and prefers to stay in the boat than jump in the lake. Furthermore, a dog's personality changes drastically based on who they are with.
