In addition to points that Justin mentions, the other points to remember are that a). this is the *first* TPC-D submission by SGI so that we obviously have less experience in this that others who've played this benchmarking game before and b). Oracle obviously spends less resources tuning their code on SGI than on other platforms such as SunOS and NT.

As the most recent SPECWeb numbers released by SGI show (cf biz.yahoo.com ) when you put in some effort to tune the application to Origin platform you can get phenomenal results.
