An Unexpected Gonzalo Lira

Some may like it, some not - but I found this old video about the Pinochet dictatorship fascinating.

Remember that the constitution of the Roman Republic actually contained a provision about an office of a Dictator. During extreme, grave situations throughout the 500 year history of the Republic, the Roman Senate had the right to appoint a dictator - normally, for a period of 6 months. That person had extraordinary powers - he was the law. He could do things that during those extreme periods could not have been done through normal channels.
