The politics of language in your country at times, like now, seems
Had reserved nice hotel across the municipal green which the Coconut’s dorm exterior window also faced, and one of the gates opens to should one have the requisite security code. I had reckoned, and wrongly, that we can simply amble across the green from hotel to the dorm and move her in, easy peasy.
Alas, not so, for the green, am told, is occupied by the homeless. In dialogue i used word I thought PC in reference to the camp’s residents as ‘the homeless’, as opposed to vagrants, paupers, Dickensian beggars or dredges of society. I would never ever use denigrating words to describe the less fortunate even in absence of wokeism.
Alas, the Coconut corrected me, telling me that instead of saying ‘homeless person’, I should use the more PC term ‘people without housing’, and for it is the society’s issue that people without homes are without homes. She is quite patient w/ me.
So, given that Wu is referred to as ‘woman of colour’, I am guessing but cannot be sure, that there are ‘folks of no colour’, and ‘people of more colour’.
In any case the cousins we visited here in NY are people of more colour. The USA cousins of less or of no colour are elsewhere in USA, but cousins also. We just refer to all cousins as cousins for simplicity’s sake.
Back in 1984 I was paraded by an African American cousin through the offices of his colleagues many of whom were of no colour, and he noted that he did not change his last name to that of a Chinese to get the job of affirmative action direction of the large and important bureaucracy that is part of the federal government. He is African American w/ Chinese DNA, and legitimately sports a Chinese sir name. At one time he also worked in one of your 3-alphabet outfits.
