You make a great observation. Now I read a long time ago, so my memory is really fractured, Shock Doctrine, I think it was that, by Naomi Klein's book Shock Doctrine where she says that the Freidman clowns got there during Yeltsin's time and really fucked everything up? Friedman was so wrong about economics and had such a large right wing following. < The thing is we had no ultimatum to win the Cold War - they withered from within - and THEN we did nothing when we actually "won". We could have transformed Russia as we did with Germany with the Marshall Plan, but instead we gloated, and spent too much time pointing and laughing as the former KGB took hold and it slowly fell into an autocracy led by none other than Putin who bumped off his rivals.
