| | | I built the number of positions out in size, in other words bought all of the companies I wish to have in each portfolio, and then I started building those positions up in size. So if I have $10,000 to start a new portfolio I would buy 10 companies at $1,000 each.
Where a full position used to be $1,000 in the Young Folk Portfolio, when all companies reached that amount I raised a full position to $2,000 and then $3,000. I'll continue to raise the size of a full position as time goes on so that at some point a full position will be $50,000 or $60,000 each.
I use this approach in almost every portfolio I manage.
I don't mind some companies staying larger than others, but I do want to keep building the smaller positions up in value.
I have one portfolio I manage for example that has a position in AAPL in excess of $1MM yet a full position in that portfolio is $100,000. |
