Exactly, many kids in junior college are there because they don't know what to do.

But while in there, many do discover what to do.

Two things few talk about is 1) the fact just being in an environment where everyone is learning and debating, is very educational. I learned a ton in the cafeteria.

2) Something I never hear people talk about is the benefit of "forced learning".

E.g, how many people will just pick up a book by Plato, or study the history of civilization on their own.

Damn few, but in college you are forced to read those things and like it or not you learn about them and your world opens up.

When at the U of Washington i hung with the Jews, and boy did most hate college as they had to work so hard because of their cultural demands.

But I also noticed they sure lived their lives by what they learned.

When you propose opening the school to all then it is much more like community college, which I also attended at some points, and there were a lot of students there because they just didn't know what else to do. They didn't make great role models.
