Hi all, Nigel Cole from Orckit has always been very responsive when I have called Orckit. Following are Mr. Coles reply to you query.
"The information below is OK for public domain You can do what you like with it. I am in the office all this week. Feel free to call me : 916-355-1265 Best Regards Nigel
In a message dated 98-02-10 21:43:11 EST, you write: << 1. Will the orctf solution be capable of 1.5Mbps? if so when? *********************************************** Yes & Now. Orckit has been much more active on G.lite than is widely known.
Orckit's G.lite solution is capable of working at well beyond 2 Mbps but final speeds will depend on how the G.lite standard shakes out.
The 1 Mbps mentioned in Fujitsu release has no significance; that product is capable of working well beyond 2 Mbps. Remember the mindset of G.lite is for Internet access only- i.e. no need to operate beyond 1 Mbps because Internet maximum throughput is 500 kbps.
Orckit has already demo'd prototype splitterless modem working up to 2-3 Mbps (possibly the only company to show it working during ComNet?). A solution conformant to the final Standard, once agreed, will be a simple software download on the Orckit platforms (performed by remote management system)
It is not widely known that Orckit is also a contributor to the UAWG (G.lite) technical sub-group. Many people are misunderstanding the situation and believe Aware to be the only contributor, because of the news leaks just before ComNet show. As a contributor to this group Orckit is respecting the group's NDA
It is possible that Orckit will make public more on it's G.lite plans soon **********************************************
2. If not, why they are not using an approach capable of such speeds?... after all believe they know this stuff forwards and backwards, and politics and posturing aside, g.lite seems basically to just be about "filtering and tweaking" signal ... in any case, believe they will need to be able to at least publish comparable numbers to hold their own in the public relations (disinformation) wars ... ... also if it seems appropriate would you ask/beg for an:
3. update on adsl silicon due mid 98? on track? ********************************************* *** Edit by srvhap ***
This info is not public, but I feel that Orckit is not concerned with respect to there schedules. ** end srvhap edit **** *********************************************
... i will try (again) via email, but recently seems to be hard to get a response. ********************************************* Who is emailing who? It concerns me if people are not getting a response from the company. Feel free to refer to me. *********************************************
G.Lite is DMT..... period. The UAWG core group is defining some deltas to the T1.413 Standard Issue 2 and will then take them to the ITU for ratification.
The group will add a few things, but mostly it is REMOVING things from the DMT standard. These are still under discussion.
All of Orckit's DMT solutions (past and future) are DSP based and highly reprogrammable. " |
