An article in today's WSJ by Mark Boslet cited a Goldman Sachs survey. The article said,
"A strong 71% of respondents to the survey conducted by Goldman Sachs and Computer Intelligence expect to increase spending on data networking by at least 6% to as much as 20% or more in 1998. Fifty-one percent of technology executives at these large corporations mentioned Cisco Systems Inc. as their primary network supplier, compared with 17% for Bay Networks Inc. and 13% for 3Com Corp."

The article also noted that the buyers surveyed favored ATM equipment for LANs over GBE, in contrast to the popular notion that GBE is gaining broadly in the market. However, as standard GBE becomes widely available in the second half of this year, the article speculated that GBE's appeal will increase.
