He didn't think most politicians were any good and became "Lord Protector" of the UK (A dictator in reality.) He had to supress a mutiny by the "Levelers". " He did work on reforms though, for the legal system, and the status of the UK, and both fared well under his control. Cromwell didn't think much of corrupt types, and usually had them kicked out of office.
