Russians staged elections held under the guns of their army, from Mongolia to East Germany, for decades, with predictable results. Now they want to do it in the parts of Ukraine they have conquered.
The US has staged elections, held under the guns of our “liberating” army, in various places: Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc. We killed about 300,000 Philippine people after “liberating” them in 1898. Then we held an election, once they were properly “pacified”.
There is no choice, no freedom, no actual “election”, when someone is holding a gun to your head. That’s true, whether you are an individual, or a nation.
I do not understand how anyone can think a Russian election has any validity. I’m doubtful a truly fair election can be held in Pennsylvania. I know it is impossible in the Donbas. |
