I’m retired after having spent most of my professional life as an Internist in private practice, providing mostly “routine” care. Also, spent a number of years working in hospitals.

The reason I wrote the reply was him mentioning that the Canadian government refuses to have anything but a single standard of care. In theory it sounds great, but real life repercussions are not all good.

Even having such a limited intent in mind, it took a few paragraphs just to touch on a few of those repercussions. You can ask I-node - I’ve written thousands of posts on SI about healthcare and its problems. Sorry, can’t do it comprehensively in a single post.
