Yup, very fortunate that I'm in southwest Nova Scotia.
The western part of the province including Cape Breton Island
took quite a hit as those links you posted show.
Port aux Basques in Newfoundland got a bad hit.
It's a windy area to begin with, so just made worse by the storm.
Have seen photos of a lot of storm damage in Pictou county here in Nova Scotia.
Huge trees down, power lines down, roofs ripped off,
solar panel arrays torn apart, houses flooded that were near the ocean, etc...
In my area, it wasn't much different than most bad storms that come in off the ocean.
We've had a few really bad storms in recent years and I think that a lot of the hazard trees
are pretty much gone around our area. I just had two removed a month ago.
We're all getting pretty twitchy about large, decrepit trees around our houses.
All I can say is that the times they are a' changin'.
Have to be a lot more prepared and proactive about being ready for major storms.
Even then, your house could get taken out if you happen to be unlucky.
