US says it told the Kremlin that Russia will face 'catastrophic consequences' if it uses tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine (msn.com)

Top Brandon officials like Jake Sullivan and Antony Blinken have claimed that they have clearly communicated to RuZZia what America will do if PooTin resorts to using tactical nukes in Ukraine.

They also claim that they don't want to reveal what they said to RuZZia because they don't want to engage in a tit-for-tat rhetorical battle.

Time will tell whether what they said to RuZZia amounts to enough of a nuclear deterrent.

I personally don't think so, because:

a) Whatever RuZZian officials were contacted by American officials are highly unlikely to convey those threats to PooTin.

b) Publicizing what we would do in response to RuZZia's nukes is a key factor in leading the international coalition against the careless use of nuclear weapons. Keeping it private doesn't really buy us much.

But at least the Brandon administration HAS a plan, and it isn't a wild one nor is it based on denial.

I guess that counts for something.
