Yes, clay then packed chert. We're in drought again so ground is hard all the way down.
If I had a skid steer, I probably could get through it but I'm just using a 3-point mounted auger in an old tractor so there's no down force like a skid steer has.
A skid steer went cheap at an auction last weekend but it didn't have high enough hydraulic flow to run a forestry mulcher which is what I want one for. I rarely auger holes and I can lift/move stuff around with the tractors.
Oh well, the longer I wait, the cheaper lumber will be. LOL At 7% mortgage rates, housing should screech to a halt.
