I was in NYC when 9/11 happened. I saw it live and my jaw dropped with the building collapsed. My brother worked in Tower 7. Luckily, he'd left his briefcase at home and went back to get it (he lived fairly close by in Brooklyn Heights). By the time he got back to the office, the buildings were crumbling and he went to ER for abrasions to his cornea.

But that is not the story I wanted to tell, nor the worst of it.

That jackass Rudy Giuliani told everyone that everything was safe and good. The government made a shrine of the sites and thousands of people everyday went there and wept while toxic fumes kept rising for weeks. Those gases smogged the whole city. The entire greater NYC stank for months. As I said, my brother lived nearby. He and great many others ended up with permanent health problems. All because the government decided it was inconvenient to evacuate the city and didn't want to cause a panic or economic damage.

Goddam governments lie.If they tell you that the sky is blue, run out and look - 8 out of 10 times it is sunset and the sky is red.

In this case the lie was for something that on the whole worked better for most people. In contrast to Bush and Giuliani that lied for pure economic and political reasons.

Anyways, as I said, I always expected CV19 to become an endemic. The date on that post is April 2020. So I supported the vaccine with my eyes open.
