Also I never knew that "run-of-the-mill ASICs" have 400,000 gates the number that LSI has in their average designs. Last year LSI had 200-250k gates. So looks to me that the complexity is increasing for LSI not decreasing. Yeah like you say a run-of-the-mill ASIC company that's LSI.

(Besides call up VLSI and ask them how many gates in their average design. I think it's around 300k. Even if not 300k it's not much higher than this. So if LSI is a run-of-the-mill ASIC company then so is VLSI. Heck if VLSI's designs have lower gate counts then by your definition VLSI is even less than a run-of-the-mill ASIC company, perhaps in your book it's a crawl-of-the-mill ASIC company?)

(I like VLSI and LSI to anyone who is reading this. Just poking fun at bonehead comments by J. Bertonis.)
