Markets 9/30/22: Greetings from Yellowstone all - I wish I didn't have stock market quotes and news out here in this most beautiful place in your country. I've done some quick analysis and have come to the conclusion that the markets continue to look like shit. LOL

I had not opened my accounts/balances screens for almost three weeks but did so late last night to get the pain over with and in realizing that it was probably time to take some actions. I'm still not adding any high growth, speculation, etc. at this time because even with the markets in downward spiral, the S&P is still well off the average bear market return and, quite frankly, there's little to be excited about in the markets for seemingly the next couple of quarters. The only positive catalyst I can find is that the markets are very oversold and that's not necessarily a reason to buy. The job market isn't horrible either with payrolls looking decent so I supposed that's a positive as well.

We were supposed to be here until 10/11 but will be leaving on 10/3. Father-in-law had a smallish heart attack (is there such a thing?) and will be undergoing open heart surgery sometime early next week. At least it's in Boise, not THAT far away so we will head out. We were going to be stopping by to see them for a few days anyway on the way home.

I made some quick loss harvesting moves into the AM strength now that many of these stocks are past their ex-div dates and I can buy them back, if desired, on Halloween or later.

In the Bridge Income & Long accounts:

Sold

MMM @ $112.22 - Sold entire position. I still hope to buy this one back
NLY @ $17.50 - Reverse split and has been a dog. Good div performance but I probably won't be back
HPQ @ $25.57 - Horrible entries by me on the way down to capture income. I'll be back but I don't see this one running too far, too quickly if the market settles down in the next 30 days

Bought

VCSH $72.48 - Adding to my favorite short term bond fund. Yield now over 4%
SCHP $52 - Adding to my Schwab TIPS fund for yield and int rate protection.

Looking at:

I have other trades I'll be making to capture loss but doing so selectively and carefully. I'll then start slowly adding to my favorite names that I already own or want to own more of:

MDT
AMD
NVDA
AVGO
LUMN
UL
VZ
MSFT
GOOGL
AMZN
JPM
GS
C

Among others ...

The action on some of my recent purchases has been dismal including

STWD - This one has been a dog of late but I may just add
LUMN - Stunning fall but everything I'm reading is that they are on the upswing with a safe div
LEG - I still like this issue with a good yield but it has fallen with the market

Hang in there everyone and be defensive.
