Yes, as I showed in that video in my post it can be done.

I've been personally involved in the laying of offshore pipelines, both "Near Shore" and in Deep Water where a Lay Barge is used to join pipe lengths and then lay the pipe string on the sea bed.

Here's an example of a "Near Shore" project that took place on the coast of West Africa in Namibia, where a 1200mm diameter pipe was pulled out and placed on the sea bed. This pipe was used to "suck" seawater back into an onshore Desalination Plant where it was purified and the water was then pumped for use in an inland Mining establishment. The future desalination structure is in the lower right.
The pipes ready to be placed and pulled into a long string can be seen in the top right.
The second pic shows a pipe ready to be placed on the rollers and then pulled out to sea ........
