John, Bloomberg is a proprietary information retreival service that large brokerage and research services use. It costs our company $1,000 per terminal per month for ours.

On 6/19/96 IAS Comunications announced that several variations of the Contra-Wound Helical Antenna (CTHA) were built, such as wireless local area network, cellular telephone and wireless telephone. The atennas were constructed to confirm that design and measurement techniques were funcational across a wide spectrum of frequencies. Several laboratory models of the CTHAs operated at selected frequencies from 2 to 950 megahertz. From the experiments conducted on the CTHAs to date several advantages have been noted:
- the CTHA is 1/60th the height of a monopole antanna
- operates more efficiently with single phase feed
- weighs 80% less than most appications
- can be flush mounted for low profile packaging
- radiates in all directions, making it the first antaenna to accomplish this important feature.

A proof of concept antenna order has been received from the Commercial and Government Systems division of the Eastman Kodak Company. They will condust independent evaluations to see if the CTHA will meet requirements for use on a developmental Digital Image Capture system.

The development of the CTHA has been conducted at the West Virginia Research Corporation.

On 7/1/96 IASCA annouced that the initial over the ocean evalutation (testing done by the US Navy)of the Contrawound Toroadal Helical Antanna (CTHA) was completed and it was a resounding SUCCESS.

The tests directly compared the performance between a quarter wave monopole antenna (8 foot tall) and the CTHA(1 inch tall) out to communications failure distance for the monopole antanna. Radios were controlled by a computer which initiated a call one time per minute for the duration of the test run. The signal to noise ratio was recorded at each call and automatically ranked for that call segment.

The CTHA continued to operate with a perfect score for both receive and transmit throughout the test. This outstanding performance is due to the unique isotropic-like radiation pattern of the CTHA.

The evaluation took place with a high frequency single side band antanna for commercial maritime use during the ocean trials. This was very successful in that IASCA communicated over 700 miles on its FIRST attempt.

This information was paraphrased from the Bloomberg information service.
