I don't think they decided lockdowns weren't necessary. They decided that given the risk profile, herd immunity would be achieved and solve the problem without appreciably more deaths. I would argue they were correct.

Sweden performed better on a per capita basis than all but 7 US states, and ended up in the middle of the pack of countries. So, I don't think it did that poorly, to be honest.

But it is going to take a sweeping study of many nations to begin to capture any scientific truth from this ordeal. I've no idea whether any is really trying, at least in the US.
