Inode, that's another thing that the anti-vaxxers and the GQP LOVE to harp on, namely Dr. Fauci's changing positions. They LOVE to bring up that statement of his saying that masks weren't necessary, as if that statement was chiseled in stone and never intended to be subject to change. Basically they deny Dr. Fauci's right to change his mind and change it often based on new scientific results. I have a friend from grade school who is now the director of a public testing lab. (Among some of his accomplishments was fixing the testing methodology for the Zika virus because the previous director allowed too many false negatives.) When the coronavirus first showed up on the radar, he was of the opinion that it was just like the flu. Later on, even he realized that he was wrong and thus he changed his position. Imagine if he were in the crosshairs of the GQP. They would have taken his first statement, then nailed him to a cross for the "sin" of changing his mind. Tenchusatsu
