| | | I was operating a drill press, making 2” diameter holes in a piece of wood, for an art project. My glove fingertip touched the rotating drill, and my hand was instantly wrapped around the drill, which stalled. Took my glove off, looked at my hand. 5 finger joints bent 90 degrees, in a direction they are not supposed to go.
One at a time, with the good hand, got a firm grip on each broken finger. Pulled hard, till the joint dislocated, then repositioned. I knew, if I waited even a few minutes, the inflammatory swelling would make this much more difficult.
Drove myself to the ER. X-rays: lots of little bone fragments, but I had aligned everything well, so nothing to do but splint it. Drove myself home. Took some narcotics and got drunk. |
