Joe,

I know Commquest well. They have spent a lot of money with very few design wins. Let me put it this way, VLSI worries about them about as much as IBM worries about VLSI. Of course IBM is more of a threat. The SiGe was originally intended for their mainframes. When those chips all went CMOS, IBM decided to continue the development, with a focus on communications. Commquest will help them expand in this direction with the design expertise. In my opinion what IBM needs to do now, is buy VLSI to complete the picture. It would be a better match than TI-VLSI, because TI is committed to their proprietary DSP technology, while IBM could really benifit from VLSI's library... Jim
