Either way you don't negotiate with a school yard bully, even if he is representing eternal Mother Russia.
That’s the thing - no one treated them seriously since they dumped communism. And still, even today no one wants to negotiate. Everyone wants to defeat them. So, being that war is continuation of politics by other means, the battlefield is the only “political” approach left to them. Do or die.
