I'm starting to seriously consider the idea that Durham has been blocked by Garland from pursuing other cases. The fact that he is personally involved in this case, and new facts are being exposed, suggests he might be using this case as a hedge against his Report being redacted.
I think you may have been the first here to find an article about that theory. I couldn't find your post again, but it was in a thread that included LindyBill.

Maybe the appointment was a sham - the actual goal being falsely represented.

Durham seems to be thorough and disciplined, but in a controlled box. The legal briefs give him an opportunity to let some light shine into his findings. Otherwise, it's like a chicken tractor - moving the box from Durham to the courts - we never get to see what's going on.

The NYT foia'd Durham's examination of the CIA years ago. They didn't get anything back.

We'll see if Trump's lawyers can use Durham to leverage information:
