| | | A serious problem = group-think rules. Step outside the collective beliefs at one's peril. It can be done, but it needs great care. Catholics had excommunication - works well. LindyBill said 'shunning' of Jihad people.
Of course an organisation can't have chaos either. So it's a dilemma getting the degrees of freedom right.
North Korean allows zero deviation. Doesn't work. China suppresses small deviations. USA is very strict too despite vaunted "freedom" which is in name only.
I was an environmentalist in BP Oil International. I was pleased to find that when I recommended a big change in strategy, they did in fact adopt it. They too realized that investing for what people really want is a good thing - done right and with government support to stop competitors polluting with lead, benzene, polycyclic aromatic exhaust emissions, disgusting particulates, sulphur oxides, 1 nitro pyrene from diesels etc. Unfortunately, governments have gone berserk with CO2 "pollution" with very little The Science to justify it and no economic thinking.
Now in Aotearoa-Zimbabwe the Jacindamaniacs are going big on cutting agricultural CO2 and CH4 emissions despite that fact that those are totally circular = CO2 from air goes into growing grass, eaten by sheep, cows, which exhale CO2 and bacterial CH4, with the meat and milk eaten by people which is turned into CO2 to feed the grass. Totally absurd to break that circular cycle.
Jacinda and co now have the latest panic over nitrogen as in stream pollution with runoff and NOX emissions. So fertilizer is being banned/punished/eliminated.
The big problem of runoff is streets collecting leaves which go down the drain straight to the sea which causes harbour ruination with mangroves and growth. Without streets, leaves fall on the ground and it's all filtered by soil with pure water running into creeks and harbours.
Environmentalism is the new religion, along with tree worship animist beliefs but unfortunately it's not based on actual mechanisms of ecology and earth processes but True Beliefs.
Maximum degrees of freedom is essential for progress, but without chaotic busting of the system. Authoritarian bossy bastards think deviant thinking is a crime against humanity rather than the wellspring of the future and amazing things. Their real motivation is to boss other people and enslave them and rob them of their efforts.
